Remember the Quarry?

The Sheboygan Armory sure does!

The Citizens of Sheboygan came out in droves two Summers ago, this inland lake was getting more traffic than in recent years.

Why?

It was the first time in awhile it was open to the public.

Last year it was privatized for a ridiculously low amount of money. The council vote was unanimous, the last words spoken where boasting that with all due respect to… the Quarry will be back to it’s glory days, with lifeguards. With all due respect, it flopped, and there never were any lifeguards.

This oddness was rocketed through City Hall with a joint meeting between two boards allowing it to avoid reaching the City Council were it was soundly passed.

In another oddity, the name of the manager was included in the original agreement, yet, was removed from the final version at the last minute. It wasn’t a Madison company as stated it was a local insurance agent, hmm.

The reason for the haste, they needed the opportunity to market our lake. Somehow they didn’t actually do so for months. Reminds me odf tearing down the Shanty for pending development, it’s down, but nothings pending.

Sheboygan proclaims itself to be too poor to help with anything, yet, a great deal of money is spent on  loans for historical renovation. Seldom is the renovation done, and more often than not, the loans are not repaid.

Our goal is not to divide, yet to unite, we only offer facts, if that’s being evil, we’re guilty, we don’t see it like that. Why bring up the Quarry? Because we believe that we should be given a chance, not strategirized into oblivion.

The Armory did what it has designed to do, stimulate the economy. Everything else was secondary. Here are just two examples of this gift that keeps on giving.

Don’t let the City kill the building for less that was spent recently to “preserve” the facade of a tiny Barbershop.  May we mention this preservation never took place.

4/12/1964 – “The Midwest Hootenanny Festival” comes to the Armory to raise funds for improving the facilities at the Sheboygan Quarry.

8/10/1968 – Dance to benefit the Sheboygan Quarry (music by Tony’s Tigers and The Skunks) (Milwaukee)

Where else could you have done this?

Nothing else exists today, and nothing is in the works to replace it.

Do you see our problem?  We want to restore, improve and Enjoy the Armory. We have been working on a few fundraising events, one that we want to hold at the Armory in conjunction with March Madness.

If the City Council acts to mothball the Armory, we are left with zero facilities capable of holding these events. As such, we see this as a vote against us.

We are even offering to make arrangements to pay the heat for March, this will allow the building to remain nearly heat free until the strange October date for considering the options. Right when heating becomes the biggest expense.

$30,000, we could make a list of how many times tho amount or more have been spent in the name of Historical Preservation, or Development, but nobody has the time to read it.
